It is a tackifier. At room temperature, it is a non-toxic and odorless white flocculent powder with stable performance. It is readily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is a neutral or alkaline transparent viscous liquid. It can dissolve in other water-soluble adhesives and resins, but is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. Carboxymethyl cellulose is the carboxymethyl group substitution product of cellulose. Depending on its molecular weight or degree of substitution, it can be a completely soluble or insoluble polymer.
