CarboxylMethyl Cellulose known as industrial monosodium glutamate, it is widely used in industrial production and brings huge application value to various production fields. Carboxymethyl cellulose is a white or slightly yellowish powder, granular or fibrous solid, non-toxic, belonging to macromolecular chemical substances. It is readily soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents. It can absorb water and expand. When swelling in water, it can form a transparent viscous gel, and its viscosity will decrease with the rise in temperature. Due to its special performance, there are many special requirements in storage and transportation. The pH value of the water suspension is 6.5-8.5. The chemical formula of carboxymethyl cellulose can be simplified to [C₆H₇O₂(OCH₂COOH)₃]ₙ

■ The use of CMC as a viscosity enhancer can increase the viscosity of drilling fluid, thereby enhancing the suspension capacity of the drilling fluid;

■CMC products are used as fluid loss reducers and can effectively control water loss. After adding CMC, the drilling fluid can form high-quality mud on the wellbore wall

The mud cake is thin and tough, with a low permeability coefficient value. It can effectively protect the wellbore and prevent the infiltration and loss of water in the drilling fluid.

■ Due to its special molecular structure, CMC products have excellent salt resistance. CMC can maintain high viscosity and good water loss reduction capacity in salt water, seawater and saturated salt water. Therefore, it is often used in offshore drilling.

■CMC also has the function of suspending heavy objects in drilling fluid. Since CMC can increase the viscosity of drilling fluid and form a network structure in the mud, when CMC is added to the drilling fluid, it can enhance the ability of the drilling fluid to suspend large and heavy particles and prevent the occurrence of stuck pipe.

■CMC products are used in cementing fluids, mainly to reduce filtration loss, thereby preventing the fluid from entering voids and fractures. Additionally, they can also control the viscosity of the fluid and suspend heavy objects.
